The Connecticut Collision Repair Specialists (CCRS) announced its first Toys for Tots campaign was a success.

“We established a challenge to our members – and we have filled the room with toys,” said John Curren, CCRS Community Awareness Chairman, the night toys were gathered to be picked up by the Marine Corps.

The CCRS Community Awareness Committee launched the four-week toy drive in November to benefit the Toys For Tots organization in Connecticut, and CCRS members placed collection boxes in their shops to collect toys.

CCRS Executive Director Lisa Siembab said the final collection night was not without its challenges. Sgt. Zach Britt from the 1st BN 25th Marine Corps in Bristol, Conn., sent his a box truck to pick up the donated toys in the heavy rain, and the truck was in an accident on the way. Luckily, nobody was hurt, and Britt sent another truck to gather the toys, Siembab said.

“This is what we do,” Britt said. “It’s not about us, it’s about the kids.”
