Today Progressive began offering car insurance policies to Massachusetts drivers online. The insurer entered the Massachusetts private passenger auto market after recent regulatory reforms allowed companies to compete for customers with their own products and prices.
The country’s third largest auto insurer, Progressive is phasing in its buying options for Massachusetts drivers over time. While policies currently are available only online, eventually consumers will also be able to shop by phone and through independent agents. Progressive has been offering commercial auto insurance, which operates under a different regulatory system, to business owners in the state through independent agents for more than a year.
