Most 7-year-olds simply fantasize about driving Dad’s car down the road, but a Quebec boy got to live the dream. And, since his father caught the whole thing on video and proudly posted it on
YouTube, police are now investigating.
The clip shows the boy gripping the wheel of the family SUV with a nervous smile plastered on his face, rapidly chomping gum. From the window, it appears he’s driving down a fairly quiet back road. His whole family is in tow to cheer him on: His father operates the camera from the passenger seat, and in the back seat, a teenaged boy and a mother holding a toddler in her lap also encourage their pint-sized chauffer. At one point, the vehicle reaches about 70 kmh (around 45 mph).
Police are considering criminal charges and traffic violations and have also contacted the Quebec department of child protection to investigate the family.
Quebec Provincial Police Sergeant Chantel Mackels said she’s heard of children under age 16 driving before, but rarely do parents so eagerly supply the evidence.
“Like this, on YouTube? No, this is a new one for me,” she told a Reuters reporter.
