Dear BSB:
Is there a federal law that requires insurance companies to write a supplement within 48 hours of receiving notice?

Dear Stymied by Supplements:
No. First, there is no federal law that requires an insurer to write an estimate. (In fact, state law typically doesn’t require insurers to write estimates they do so for their own purposes.)
Is there a federal law that requires insurance companies to write a supplement within 48 hours. I think there may be a few states that require, via the insurance regulations, an insurer to “reinspect” a vehicle within 48 hours or some other designated amount of time, but certainly no federal law.
