Former Detroit Piston Derrick Coleman filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy recently, owing around $2.2 million to at least 50 creditors, including XL Autobody & Paint in Warren, Mich.

Shop owner Richard Kassa told WBIV-TV Channel 4 that he’s worked on several cars for Coleman, including the 1957 Buick convertible that’s been stored at XL for the last two years because Coleman hasn’t paid the bill.

“He's given me some money, and I'm working it out with his attorneys,” Kassa said. “I don't know if they're going to auction the vehicle or what.”

Kassa, who’s done custom work for other NBA players, said Coleman’s bankruptcy is an “unfortunate situation” that “could happen to anyone.”
