Philadelphia Body Shop Employees, Cop and Lawyer Charged in Insurance Scam

A report out of the Delaware County Daily Times says that felony charges have been filed against 11 people who allegedly conspired together to commit insurance fraud.

The scam allegedly involved University Collision Center in Philadelphia. According to the Daily Times article, an investigator alleged that the owner and employees of University Collision were "enhancing and creating damage to vehicles brought into them for repair" in order to inflate the value of insurance claims.

The manager of University Collision faces up to 75 years in prison if convicted. An attorney who allegedly filed fraudulent bodily injury claims is facing a maximum sentence of 103 years. A Philadelphia cop who was alleged to have been a "wreck chaser," according to the Daily Times report, allegedly steered accident victims to University Collision and is looking at possibly 152 years in prison.

According to the Daily Times, three insurers helped invesigators with the case: Nationwide, GEICO and State Farm.
