Attorney Erica Eversman to Discuss What Collision Repair Industry Can Learn from Shop Owner's Victory Over Progressive
4/21/2011 10:02:18 AM

In Erica Eversman's mind, it would be a shame for the collision repair industry to not take advantage and learn from North State Custom owner Greg Coccaro's hard fought and expensive court victory over Progressive.

That's why the Ohio-based attorney and consumer advocate will be going over the fine points of the landmark case at the BodyShop Business Conference May 5 at Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, Ill.

"Greg Coccaro's victory over Progressive teaches us two important things: (1) an insurer's estimate is irrelevant for the purpose of determining how the repairer will repair the consumer's vehicle, and (2) it is not fraudulent for a repairer to accept payment from an insurer on behalf of a consumer and apply it to the repair as he or she professionally determines," says Eversman.

To hear Eversman's talk, though, you must sign up for the seminar portion of the BodyShop Business Conference. After Eversman breaks down the important takeaways from the Coccaro case, you can take part in any number of other seminars on:

• Environmental compliance (6H Rule)

• Building strategic relationships

• Sales/marketing

• Lean concepts

• Waterborne/low-VOC paint

• Social media

• Search engine optimization

• Finding qualified employees

• The advantage of franchising

You might also want to get some technical training by registering for the I-CAR class, "Inspecting Repairs for Quality Control."

"The industry would be foolish to waste the sacrifice Greg and his shop made that benefits the entire industry," says Eversman. "You are in charge of the repair and liable for it. Write the damage analysis and blueprint for repair as you professionally determine, not based on the whim, instructions or alterior purposes of an insurer."
