5/18/2011 9:24:58 AM

Liz Moore recently became Wisconsin's first female champion in the collision repair category of the April 12 SkillsUSA competition held in her state.

With her victory, the 17-year-old senior at Freedom High School earned a trip to Kansas City, Mo., in June to compete in the national SkillsUSA competition in the collision repair category, which features four contests: estimating, welding, metal finishing and plastic repair.

Along with a gold medal, Moore won a $10,000 scholarship to the Universal Technical Institute in Houston and an $8,500 scholarship to a WyoTech campus.

The silver medal in the Wisconsion competition was taken by Freedom High senior Colleen Schmidt, and fellow senior Aaron Kiecker claimed the bronze.
