Custom Car Celebrities Joining PPG at SEMA
10/26/2011

PPG announced it's teaming up with some of the best-known and most respected celebrities in the world of custom cars for the upcoming SEMA show Nov. 1-4 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Charley Hutton, Tom and Mitch Kelly, and Bobby Alloway are scheduled to appear at the PPG booth #24501. Each will sign autographs and discuss and answer questions about their painting techniques using PPG products. In addition, Hutton will conduct seminars and give show attendees an insider’s view of his approach to painting.

Charley Hutton has accumulated an array of notable honors during his career. He’s reaped two Ridler awards, several Street Rod of the Year and Custom Rod of the Year awards, and an America’s Most Beautiful Roadster award. Hutton gained national recognition through the Discovery Channel's American Hot Rod, TLC's Overhaulin' and on Hot Rod TV. His shop, Charley Hutton's Color Studio, is located in Nampa, Idaho, where he uses PPG Automotive Refinish products exclusively.

Tom and Mitch Kelly are behind Kelly & Son the Crazy Painters, a paint shop at the heart of the southern California custom car world. Tom worked with legends Von Dutch and Ed "Big Daddy" Roth and is a gifted striper and muralist. Son Mitch has been painting for 34 years and is a prominent artisan, creating fantastic paint schemes on show-worthy vehicles. Kelly & Son is responsible for the flawless finish on a number of specialty, magazine and manufacturer builds including dragsters, custom cars and trucks, and motorcycles. Kelly & Son has a longstanding relationship with PPG using Vibrance Collection waterborne products to create its color blends.

Bobby Alloway’s Hot Rod Shop in Louisville, Tenn., has been producing timeless street rods since 1991 by forging muscle car attitude with hot rod craftsmanship. Alloway's cars feature an aggressive edge attained through a combination of color (primarily black), stance and power. Alloway was named the 2011 Autorama Builder of the Year at the Detroit Autorama. It was just the latest in a series of accolades, including Goodguys' Street Rod and Street Machine of the Year awards, a Ridler award, an America's Most Beautiful Roadster award, plus many others. Alloway was inducted into the Rod & Custom Hall of Fame in 2004. His paint preference is Deltron by PPG.
