On May 8, BodyShop Business Editor Jason Stahl and Associate Editor Alicia Crabtree visited Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes’ headquarters in Warrensville Heights, Ohio, to spray some of their products and learn a little bit about the company.

The editors had a “paint-off” in a spraybooth retrofitted with air movement technology. They each properly protected themselves with paint suits and respirators, and then Crabtree tested the AWX Performance Plus waterborne basecoat system while Stahl tested the Ultra 7000 solventborne system. Manager Greg Brainard and assistants Chris Gercken and Mark Harrelson offered application advice, including how far they should hold the spray gun from the fender they were refinishing. The event was covered on BodyShop Business’s Facebook page and new Instagram account.

Following the paint-off, the editors enjoyed lunch while the Sherwin-Williams team explained the company’s history and present goals for the future. This team included VR Global OEM and Services Marketing Director Bryan Draga; Director of Marketing Services Beth Bickel; Global Product Manager of Vehicle Refinish Christopher Hill; Marketing Specialist of Communications Kimberly Soos; and Senior Vice President of Falls Communications Chris Lynch.

Crabtree and Stahl give a thumbs-up at the conclusion of their paint-off.
