CAA Encourages Members to Track ‘Green’ Performance

California Autobody Association(CAA) Executive Director David McClune announced that the association has strengthened its Energy Star Challenge by encouraging its members to monitor their "green" performance using a new software.

On Aug. 23, GRC-Pirk Management, a global provider of enterprise reporting and recordkeeping services, announced a program with CynCast that enables automotive shop owners to capture, analyze and verify green performance data.

"We are pleased to expand our EPA Partnership initiative to save energy with a state-of-the-art program structured by GRC-Pirk and CynCast to provide Proof of Green,” said McClune. “This unique technology also helps our members qualify for more discounts, rebates and privileges offered by utility suppliers and insurance companies without the hassle of paperwork."

The secured monitoring program provides shops with the ability to demonstrate evidence of their green achievements. Under the terms of the program, CynCast, an automotive data exchange service, provides data capture information while GRC-Pirk provides the analysis necessary to validate U.S. Federal Trade Commission procedures for environmental advertising.

The program is promoted as “Operation Green Sweep” in support of the government’s effort to stop the practice of Green advertising without establishing evidence, also known as “greenwashing."

Doug Kelly, president of CynCast, said, “Many automotive service shops are now realizing the power of green advertising. Most owners are sincere in their claims and actually have support data buried somewhere in a computer. However, shops trying to create documentation often find that they don’t have the information in place to be comfortable with putting together a detailed report. Or if they do, the systems aren’t automated and reconciliation is a tedious manual exercise.”

"In these challenging economic times, our collective focus is to recognize true savings for shops that reduce their impact on the environment," said Steven E. Schillinger, president of GRC-Pirk Management. "Our collaboration with CAA and CynCast underscores a commitment to help shops protect the environment and sustain Green performance within the community they serve.”
