Donations and volunteer support help families of service members and veterans receiving treatment at the nearby VA hospital.

CARSTAR announced that CARSTAR storeowners from the CARSTAR Chicagoland Business Group gathered on Veteran’s Day to present a check to Hines Fisher House. The donation adds to the five years of giving from the CARSTAR Chicago Business Group. CARSTAR was recognized for its contributions at the recent Fisher House Ambassador Breakfast on Nov. 20th.

“We’ve had a relationship with the Hines Fisher House from the beginning,” said Teresa Kostick, owner of CARSTAR All Line in Bolingbrook. “The whole objective is to help the military families. We want to show our appreciation for the sacrifice of not only the men and women who serve, but also the families that support them.”

This latest donation stemmed from a little wager between storeowners. CARSTAR storeowners in Chicago and St. Louis turned a baseball game into a friendly wager when the Cubs beat the Cardinals in the playoffs.

Since the Hines Fisher House opened in 2010, the 16 shops that make up the CARSTAR Chicago Business Group have come together for various fundraising efforts to raise both money and hard goods for the charity.

Hines Fisher House opened its doors on March 1, 2010, and has provided accommodations to more than 3,000 guests. A Fisher House is “a home away from home” for family members, caregivers or loved ones of patients receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers. It is a temporary residence and is not a treatment facility, hospice or counseling center. By law, there is no charge for any family to stay at a Fisher House operated by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
