I-CAR Launches Aluminum Panel Repair and Replacement Course

APR01 will focus on hammer and dolly use, using heat to straighten aluminum, PDR and other techniques.

I-CAR has launched its all-new, instructor‐led course, Aluminum Panel Repair and Replacement (APR01).

This course provides in-depth information, backed by in-class student activities, on an array of important considerations to take into account when making decisions on aluminum panels. The Aluminum Panel Repair and Replacement course is extremely relevant to proper repair of vehicles with aluminum exterior panels, which are becoming more prevalent due to advancements in vehicle light weighting.

“Making the right decisions at the right time can play a role in improving KPIs like cycle time and CSI,” said Josh McFarlin, I-CAR director of curriculum and product development. “Being able to properly assess damage and repair and replace exterior panels requires understanding the properties, characteristics, design and construction of aluminum.”

During the course, students will participate in group activities to help reinforce learning and engagement as they receive instruction on techniques to remove damage. Some of the techniques will include hammer and dolly use, using heat for straightening aluminum, PDR, weld‐on and glue-on dent removal and corrosion prevention. Students will also receive demonstrations and explanations of several panel attachment and removal methods, as well as information on preparation and application. Aluminum welding considerations such as welding tears and dressing the weld will also be covered.
