The New York Times reported that an insurance industry group is saying a hailstorm that hit the San Antonio area last week proved to be the costliest in Texas history, with damage estimated at nearly $1.4 billion.
The Insurance Council of Texas says hailstones as large as grapefruit caused estimated insured losses to motor vehicles of about $560 million. Damage to homes and businesses is expected to reach $800 million.
