The Iowa Collision Repair Association (ICRA) is working with Iowa legislators on a Senate study bill (SSB 3180) that the association says would boost shop profits by an estimated 7 percent by exempting paint and other materials from sales tax. The legislation reads:
This bill exempts from the sales and use taxes the sales price from the sale of paint and other consumed materials to an auto body shop where the paint and other consumed materials are directly and primarily used by the auto body shop to complete vehicle repair services.
The ICRA says the bill is still in its infancy, and the association will assist in the preparation of a legislative fiscal note detailing the impact of the legislation on the Iowa General Fund.
