WSOC-TV reported that Carolina Panthers fullback Mike Tolbert said he paid a Charlotte, N.C., car repair shop $3,900 in coins after they wouldn’t accept his check.
In an Instagram post on Sept. 27th, Tolbert warned anyone in Charlotte and the surrounding area to avoid Motion Lab Tuning.
He said he was quoted a price and a 10-day completion time, but after two and a half months, the repairs had yet to be completed, and the shop upped the price from the original quote.
The shop didn’t accept Tolbert’s check. He said they told him it wasn’t going to clear the bank. So that’s when Tolbert went to the bank and withdrew $3,900 in coins.
The body shop responded on Facebook saying, “ From the beginning, he attempted to get us to do the work for free because he is ‘Mike Tolbert.’ So today, I am disappointed that it came to this, I had to call the police on Mike Tolbert. He and his buddy threatened me. CMPD actually banned him from the property today. They forced him to pay his bill before leaving though.”
