Who knew a little ol’ parts cart might save the day? It saved Fred Ellis’s day, anyway, when it held up the roof of his shop and saved three customers’ completed cars after the roof collapsed due to snow.
As everybody knows, the East Coast really got slammed with snow this past winter. According to Ellis, production manager of Mike’s Auto Body in Waldorf, Md., he lost a 30-foot by 50-foot enclosed building he uses for trim-out due to 40 inches of the white stuff. Ellis thought the three completed vehicles in the building were toast, but it turns out he was wrong.
“Just by chance, one of my parts carts from Innovative Tools & Technologies happened to be in the middle of the building and held the roof up,” Ellis said. “So if it hadn’t been for the cart, the three completed cars would have been crushed.”
Ellis says he and some employees were able bend one of the overhead doors enough to squeeze all three cars out without damage. For the next three weeks, the cart remained in the middle of the building holding the roof up until the snow melted and the roof relaxed enough for Ellis and his crew to inch it out.
“Although bent a little, it’s now back in service and performing well,” said Ellis.
