PPG Automotive Refinish will debut waterborne-compliant formulas for its Vibrance Collection line of custom colors and effects at SEMA Nov. 4-7. PPG’s VWM5555 is a midcoat for the Vibrance Collection line that creates a midcoat layer over the waterborne basecoat and allows painters to use Vibrance Collection special effect pigments such as Radiance II dyes, Flamboyance, Prizmatique, Liquid Crystals and Ditzler Big Flake.
PPG says its custom color-compliant midcoat addresses the needs of painters in areas where stiffer VOC regulations have been imposed, such as California and Canada.
“Our goal was to take all the custom colors now available with our solvent-based systems and provide matching formulas for use with Envirobase High Performance basecoat,” said Jeff Griffin, North American collision segment manager.
The VWM5555 midcoat will be available through PPG distributors across North America in January 2009. PPG will showcase custom finishes using the new Vibrance Collection compliant system at SEMA booth 23093.
