Insurance Journal recently reported that Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance Commissioner Julie Mix McPeak has been elected as vice president of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), the nation’s insurance regulatory support organization.
McPeak was elected vice president after a Feb. 7th special election needed to fill the president-elect role vacated by former Kentucky Insurance Commissioner Sharon P. Clark. Last year, McPeak was elected NAIC secretary-treasurer.
The NAIC is the U.S. standard-setting and regulatory support organization created and governed by the chief insurance regulators from the 50 states, the District of Columbia and the five U.S. territories. Through the NAIC, state insurance regulators establish standards and best practices, conduct peer reviews and coordinate regulatory oversight.
