3M Hire Our Heroes Program Provides Free Vehicle Detailing for Military Families

As part of their ongoing support of the military, the 3M Hire Our Heroes Program took a road trip to Dover Air Force Base in Dover, Del., to perform free vehicle detailing for spouses of deployed and fallen military members – restoring some 30 vehicles with services valued at nearly $10,000.

The event was held at the Dover AFB Vehicle Maintenance Facility. Recipients included families served by the Airman & Family Readiness Center, including the Air Force Families Forever, the Air Force Wounded Warriors and the deployed families.
“I can’t believe this is the same car,” said Sarah Figuera of her restored SUV. “The paint had all these spots in it and it looked horrible. Now, it looks brand new! My husband is deployed in Korea, so he usually takes care of these things. It’s so nice to have companies like 3M come provide services like this. It means the world to us that they care about the families here.”

The team performing the vehicle detailing consisted of employees from 3M Automotive Aftermarket Division and Advance Auto Parts. The services provided included interior and exterior cleaning; waxing; vinyl, trim and molding restoration; and headlight restoration, all of which used 3M Auto Care cleaning, waxing and restoration products.

“We all know that our military members make incredible sacrifices for us all, but we need to remember that the families for those military members are also making a tremendous sacrifice, so it felt really great to be able to see them drive off in a shiny, clean car. They were all so appreciative,” said Dale Ross, U.S. marketing operations manager for 3M Automotive Aftermarket Division. “I would also like to acknowledge our volunteer clean-up crew from Advance Auto Parts, who worked hard and did such a great job!”

The event was hosted by Doug Rice, lead anchor and president of the Performance Racing Network. NASCAR star Greg Biffle, driver of the No. 16 3M Ford Fusion, was on hand for a special 3M pep rally for the troops on base.

The 3M Hire Our Heroes program, which provides scholarships and grants to deserving military members and their families interested in a career in the collision industry, had a special tent to showcase the program. Since its launch in late 2012, the 3M Hire Our Heroes program has awarded 115 grants valued at $500,000.
