ABAC Asks Repairers to Sign Petition Enforcing Anti-Trust Laws

The Auto Body Association of Connecticut (ABAC) has started a national campaign aimed at getting collision repairers to sign a petition “to enforce federal anti-trust laws so as to protect consumers and small business owners from the anticompetitive effects of unlawful conspiracies in the collision repair market.”

“This is our first attempt at a national campaign to remove insurer interference in the collision repair industry,” says Bill Romaniello, ABAC director.

Romaniello said the initial petition is specifically for the leaders in the collision repair industry. A second petition that will come out soon will be for all employees throughout the industry.

Romaniello believes the petition will be especially effective because it originates from repairers in Connecticut, who have had an ally in their state’s attorney general, Richard Blumenthal.

“[Blumenthal] was present at the latest SCRS meeting in Hartford and informed the room that he was personally aware of the concerns facing our industry,” Romaniello said. “He also said he has had conversations with other attorneys general in regard to our concerns and would be willing to contact any other attorneys general to assist.”
