Collision centers across the United States and Canada are sharing the gift of transportation with 37 families and community members during the 11th annual AkzoNobel Acoat selected National Benevolence Program, being held Dec. 8 through 15.
The Benevolence Program is a community service endeavor sponsored by AkzoNobel and conducted by collision repair centers that are members of the Sikkens Acoat selected program. Its mission is to generate good will while improving and promoting the image of the collision repair industry, AkzoNobel says. Participating collision centers present refurbished cars to deserving individuals or organizations during the holiday season.
“Since the program began, our total number of cars given to deserving families exceeds 300,” said North American Services Manager Mike Sillay. “Despite, or perhaps because of, the difficult economy the Acoat selected Benevolence Program has prevailed thanks to the generosity and concern that our customers have for their communities. As always, I am impressed by the spirit and enthusiasm that these businesses exhibit to ensure that others can have a better life. It is a true testament to the standards that they set for their businesses.”
Employees at participating shops donate their time and labor to repair vehicles in need of mechanical or collision repairs that have been written off by insurance companies or owners. Once the vehicle is reconditioned, shops then work with local charitable organizations to help them identify an individual or group that is in need of a vehicle.
Other gifts such as auto insurance, oil changes, car washes, grocery store gift cards, clothing, toys and books are often donated by local merchants to accompany the car.
The Acoat selected National Benevolence Program is sponsored by AkzoNobel Coatings Inc. and is for customers who use its Sikkens brand of automotive refinish products.
