BASF announced today that the SPEED Channel show “Dream Car Garage” will film BASF receiving its newly restored 1957 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing at Meadow Brook Concours d’Elegance on Aug. 3 in Rochester, Mich. The handoff presentation will be aired during an early 2009 episode of the show.
A decade ago, BASF added the Gullwing to its collection of classic and exotic cars purchased from several of its customers. Since February, “Dream Car Garage” has featured a behind-the-scenes look at the restoration of the Gullwing, one of only 76 built in the model’s last year of production. Restored from its tube frame up and finished with BASF’s Glasurit 90 Line of waterborne automotive finish products, the project was conducted by Dream Car Garage’s sister company, Legendary Motorcar.
Peter Klutt, host of "Dream Car Garage," will be at Meadow Brook on Aug. 3 to hand the Gullwing over to Jay Baker, group vice president of BASF’s coatings division in North America. Klutt will also conduct a restoration seminar in the BASF-sponsored media tent.
“What a great venue for our official return of the Gullwing to BASF,” said Klutt. “We’re thrilled to have been involved in this restoration project and are looking forward to sharing it with all of the car enthusiasts coming to this exciting event.”
