BodyShop Business Honors Collision Tech at Annual ASE Meeting

Thirty-three automotive professionals were recognized on Nov. 19, 2009, at the fall board meeting of the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) held at the Monteleone Hotel in New Orleans, La. BodyShop Business Editor Jason Stahl was on hand at the awards ceremony to present Eric Rice with the BodyShop Business/ASE Master Collision Repair & Refinish Technician of the Year Award.

Rice, of Marcellus, New York, is a collision repair and refinish technician at Alan Byer Collision Center in Syracuse. Rice has 26 years experience in the field and has won numerous awards for his auto restorations in New York and Virginia, including a First Place at the respected Sully Plantation Antique and Classic Show in Northern Virginia. He and his wife Carolyn have two high-school-aged daughters.

The annual awards banquet spotlights top scorers on the ASE certification tests. Twenty-seven different companies from both OEM and Aftermarket segments, including BodyShop Business, sponsored the individual technician recognition awards in the Auto, Truck and Collision categories.

In addition to looking for top scores on ASE tests, award sponsors examine on-the-job excellence, community service, and other factors when selecting honorees.

"For more than 25 years, ASE has been honoring the best of the best in our industry, and this year we recognized 33 outstanding individuals from all around the nation," said Tim Zilke, ASE President & CEO. "ASE is grateful for the support of our many award sponsors, whose ranks include some of the best-known names in the industry. Their commitment to excellence is reflected in the talented individuals we recognize each year."
