Burglary Leaves Shop Missing Tools, Truck Worth a Total $54,000

Burglars targeted a New Paris, Ind., body shop last week, using a truck owned by the shop to haul away thousands of dollars in tools. Police believe the thieves have also used the shop’s truck to steal from several other local businesses.

Tim Spurlock, owner of Spurlock Body & Paint, told WSBT-TV that when he discovered the burglary, his office appeared as though a hurricane went through it, and he’s continually noticing more tools missing.

“They…loaded up almost every hand tool, spray guns, sanders – took everything they could get,” he told the TV station. “After they loaded [the truck], they opened the door and drove it next door. Broke into there with the crow bar, tore doors open.”

Spurlock told WSBT-TV that the thieves also took computer equipment, spray guns, more tools and sanders from his paint shop.

An employee at Spurlock’s shop called the experience “sickening.”

The same night, the thieves are believed to have also used Spurlock’s truck to steal everything from tools to office equipment from three other local businesses.

Spurlock said the stolen property was insured, but he’ll still lose business waiting for tools to be replaced.
