CARSTAR Breaks World Record for Largest Car Wash

A new Guinness World Record has been set in suburban Cincinnati on Saturday, June 11, 2011 – for the largest car wash in history. The 12 Cincinnati-area CARSTAR stores led more than140 stores across the United States and Canada in the North American attempt to break the Guinness World Record it set in 2009 for “World’s Largest Car Wash – Multiple Venues” by washing 4,918 cars in eight hours.

The event, held by CARSTAR Auto Body Repair Experts, North America’s largest chain of collision repair centers, donated 100 percent of the ticket sales to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in the U.S. and Cystic Fibrosis in Canada, as well as select local charities. More than $67,000 was raised through the event.

“Over the first three years, the Soaps It Up! Car Wash has been able to unite the CARSTAR family across North America to help children in need,” said David Byers, CEO of CARSTAR Auto Body Repair Experts. “With today’s new Guinness World Record, we are excited to continue the tradition of making the ‘Wash for a Wish’ Soaps It Up! Car Wash the biggest and best ever. We are thrilled to bring even more support for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America and Cystic Fibrosis in Canada through this great event.”

“Congratulations to CARSTAR for establishing a new Guinness World Record and continuing its wonderful support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation,” said David Williams, Make-A-Wish Foundation of America president and chief executive officer. “The community spirit of more than 140 CARSTAR stores uniting to help fulfill children’s wishes makes this effort all the more special.”

CARSTAR stores in Canada have been conducting the “Soaps It Up!” Car Wash for the past eight years, and this is the third time the program has been done in the United States. The 2009 event was the first attempt for any organization to set the record for the largest car wash across multiple locations.
