Custom automotive painter Charley Hutton met with fans to sign autographs and unveil the Charley Hutton Ridler Color Collection on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at PPG Booth 24501 in the Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Despite his status as a painting celebrity, Hutton is, deep down, just like any other automotive refinisher. “When waterborne first came out, I was just like everyone else and really hesitant about it,” he said. “But I know it’s the new thing and I know we’re eventually all going to have to use it. I’ve used every other paint brand and I’ve had the best luck with PPG.”
The booth’s “Carnival of Color” theme, complete with circus music, popcorn and candy machines, and robotic acrobats, was a fitting setting to showcase the latest refinishes and colorful custom vehicles. The new collection was developed at Hutton’s Color Studio in Nampa, Idaho, and features 15 distinctive tones.
For Hutton, he’s continuously impressed with PPG’s booth and the SEMA Show as a whole every year. “It’s a great chance to see the new products out there and all the different cars people are building. It gives us an idea of all the new trends, and it’s fun to study what other people are doing.”
