This week, a contributor sent a check for $2,500 to the recently established Collision Industry Legal Fund aimed at assisting body shop owner Ray Gunder in his ongoing battle with State Farm.
The donation came with a simple note: “Ray, thanks for having the b____ to fight State Farm! They screw consumers and body shops every day! Please don’t think you have to repay me in any way, shape or form. You’re doing more than enough by fighting State Farm.”
The Collision Industry Fund was recently established to provide financial assistance to Gunder’s Auto Center in Lakeland, Fla., which has been involved in a lawsuit against State Farm for slander and tortious interference, as well as the failure to pay for certain repair procedures.
“While this is the largest single donation we’ve received to date, of which we’re extremely grateful and thankful for, we also appreciate the many others we’ve received in various amounts from $10 to $500,” Gunder said. “The funds will be of enormous help in the ongoing legal costs, but this, along with the many other comments of support, will provide us the motivation and conviction to continue this often difficult but honorable legal journey.
“This fight isn’t just about Gunder’s and our customers, or just about State Farm; it’s about repairers and consumers who face the same issues of abuse day in and day out across the country. State Farm will try to outlast and outspend us if it can, but with the continued support of others across the country, and God willing, we’ll see this through to the very end.”
To mail a donation to the fund, make the check out to "The Collision Industry Legal Fund" and send to: Brent Geohagan, Attorney at Law, 3001 Bartow Rd., Lakeland, FL 33803.
