The Dallas Morning News has reported that a director of body shop operations for a Dallas-based group of high-end dealerships and other body shop operators are pushing back against insurance companies for “requiring” shops to use cheaper parts and even specifying how much time they should spend on the repairs.
“It all started with cost discounts on repairs, but then they began wanting changes in labor rates and telling us which parts we should use,” Eric McKenzie, director of body shop operations for Park Place Dealerships, told The Dallas Morning News. “When an insurance company controls a shop’s profits, they have to take shortcuts.”
