State Farm has announced it has received approval from the Federal Aviation Administration to test the use of drones.
State Farm is the first insurer in the U.S. to receive the FAA’s permission to test unmanned aircraft systems for commercial use. The insurer has said it plans to use the aircraft to “assess potential roof damage during the claims process and respond to natural disasters.”
State Farm states that the flights will be tested in Bloomington, Ind., and eventually will involve real-world testing.
