A recent report on Fox 7 in Austin, Texas did much to educate consumers on steering. The news station exposed the story of a couple who got in a car wreck and who were steered to a body shop that did $8,000 worth of faulty repairs to their vehicle. The station reported that the shop owner provided test results that he said proved the work was done properly. The report also said the shop owner believed additional damage happened after the vehicle left his facility.
One repairer interviewed for the story said he sees steering all the time.
"And, of course, the implication is, when you tell somebody, ‘Hey, I can’t guarantee their work,’ there’s an assumption there’s an implication that that work from the independent shop is of a lower standard," the repairer said.
