New headlights look and work great, but the polycarbonate plastic they’re made from is prone to scratches and can turn yellow or completely white with time. On headlights, scratch resistant coatings just don’t stand a chance.
Hazing or clouding is the first sign that the scratch-resistant coating is failing. The coating may develop a rough surface, causing the start of cloudiness, or you may actually see signs of flaking, peeling, chipping or a combination of these. Once the scratch-resistant coating is gone and nothing has been done about it, yellowing and cloudiness caused by UV damage will decrease the ability of the headlights to light the road ahead.
How to Fix Headlight Yellowing and Clouding
ProTech Polymer Products, Ltd. says it has developed advanced and long-lasting headlight cleaning, reconditioning, sealing and repair products: PRESTO! PREP and PRESTO! PBR.
PRESTO! PREP is a spray-on and wipe-off cleaner that removes headlight yellowing on contact without damaging the headlight or adjacent surfaces. This proprietary cleaner is also the key to eliminating the highly risky sanding steps that other products require.
PRESTO! PBR is a coating that protects better and longer than the headlight’s original coating. Until now, the UV-cured, scratch-resistant coatings that originally protected the headlight could only be applied in a controlled factory environment. PRESTO! PBR is the first sunlight UV cured coating that doesn’t need to be applied in a controlled factory setting and results in a coating that is well over three times thicker than the original coating. PRESTO! PBR has the most comprehensive UV blocking protection available. The coating penetrates, fills, seals, and once cured, results in a highly chemically resistant surface that is 3-7 times more scratch resistant than epoxy coatings.
