Legislation filed by Iowa Sen. Brad Zaun, S.F. 23, calls for a study of the effects of DRPs.
This bill requests that the legislative council establish an interim study committee to examine DRPs used by auto insurance companies to have claimants’ vehicles repaired. The study would include a review and analysis of the use of such programs in Iowa and their effect on collision repair shops, insurance costs and Iowa consumers.
In addition to legislative members, the 33-member committee charged with the study would include three consumers.
The committee would be required to meet twice during 2011 and produce a report of its findings by January 2012.
