It’s been GREAT Being Publisher of BodyShop Business!

Over the past 10 years, I’ve had the pleasure of being the publisher of the BodyShop Business brands, but it’s time to turn the reins over to a new leader – Sean Donohue – who will continue all the great work that has been done and bring fresh ideas and direction to the brands.

Over the past 10 years, I’ve had the pleasure of being the publisher of the BodyShop Business brands. BodyShop Business and its associated brands are the collision industry’s premier sources for news and information. The collision space is a vibrant yet challenging industry that’s constantly changing. All that change is what makes the space so interesting.

It’s time to turn the reins over to a new leader who will continue all the great work that has been done, but also bring fresh ideas and direction to the brands. Sean Donohue is just the right person to do that.

Sean has been with Babcox Media for more than 10 years and has led the tool and equipment properties as well as our powersports publications. He’s a natural for this market since so much of our business relies on the tool and equipment world to do the collision repair work that we do. I know Sean will do a great job leading the BodyShop Business brand into the future.

I would be remiss if I did not mention the efforts of our BodyShop Business staff. For the past 10 years, they’ve made the news and information on the collision repair industry accurate and interesting for all of you. None of it would have come together without the efforts of our longtime industry expert and editor, Jason Stahl. Every month, Jason works to ensure that the industry’s important issues and products are brought to all of you in a creative and informative manner.

Over the years, we’ve tackled many interesting subjects and tried new things. In our business, new and innovative ways of delivering information are essential for keeping our products fresh and interesting for all of you. I know the future is bright for BodyShop Business with Sean and Jason guiding the future of this great brand.

I won’t be too far away; I’ll still be at Babcox as the group publisher of Counterman, aftermarketNews (AMN) and Engine Builder and will be watching with fond memories.

Best of luck to all of you!

Are the Technician Shortage Tides Turning?

TechForce Foundation data shows that nearly 50,000 new automotive technicians joined the workforce in 2022, for a total of over 78,000 in two years.

In its 2023 Transportation Supply & Demand report, our friends at the TechForce Foundation didn’t waste any time giving us hope that the technician shortage is showing signs of recovery. Right there on the cover of the report are the words “The first uptick across the industry in postsecondary completions in 10 years.” That’s fantastic news. For the first time in a decade, there has been a marked increase in graduates from technical schools across the automotive, collision, diesel and even aviation sectors. Specifically, the automotive sector has witnessed nearly 5,000 additional students graduating in 2022 over the previous year — a 17% increase. Now, the question is, is 17% a worthy enough bump to put your technician-chasing days behind you? For you to cartwheel into work to pull a rope you rigged overnight to dump two tons of confetti in your store colors into your bays like you just won the Super Bowl? Ding dong! The witch is dead!
