WXYZ Detroit has reported that a Federal Civil Rights lawsuit has been filed against Gerber Collision & Glass.

A 21-year-old is claiming he was the victim of racist behavior at the Novi, Mich., location where he recently quit.

Ernest Garner filed the lawsuit against the auto repair shop headquartered in Illinois and his supervisor in Novi after working at the location for nine months.

Garner claims he was promoted twice and never received a raise, while his white coworkers did. He also claims he was constantly the target of racist comments, even though he complained to his supervisors. Garner was then forced to record alleged comments from his fellow coworkers.

The suit is seeking more than $1,000,000 in damages.
