Mitchell International CEO a Semifinalist for EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2016 San Diego Award

The award program recognizes entrepreneurs in over 145 cities and 60 countries who demonstrate excellence and extraordinary success in innovation, financial performance and other areas.

EY has announced that Alex Sun, president and CEO of Mitchell International, is a semifinalist for the EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2016 San Diego Award.

Now celebrating its 30th year, the award program recognizes entrepreneurs in over 145 cities and 60 countries who demonstrate excellence and extraordinary success in such areas as innovation, financial performance, and personal commitment to their businesses and communities.

Sun was selected as a semifinalist by a panel of independent judges. Finalists will be announced May 25th, and winners will be announced at a formal awards gala on June 20th, with more than 500 founders, CEOs and other business leaders in attendance, at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar, Calif.

“It’s a great honor to be named as a semifinalist for an award as prestigious as the EY Entrepreneur of the Year, alongside such respected entrepreneurs and innovators,” said Sun. “This recognition is a true testament to Mitchell as a company, its employees and how we rally around ‘The Mitchell Way’ as we continue to empower better outcomes for our customers.”

Sun joined Mitchell International in 2001, when the company had evolved from a mom-and-pop business to a leading supplier of estimating and communication products for analyzing claims information, workflow processing, and enhancing shop management and efficiency. At $200 million annual turnover and 500 employees, Sun started the execution of a vision to expand the business beyond Auto Physical Damage (APD). This would drive additional revenue in order to scale the company, allowing it to reinvest back into its core APD solutions while also expanding its solution and service offerings into new Property and Casualty (P&C) markets. Ultimately, the organization set out to embody the principle of “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts” through its expansive solution offerings, providing the opportunity to deliver the highest value and level of service to its customers.

Sun set a mission to empower better outcomes for Mitchell’s clients, and to “turn the company into the most strategic provider of claims handling technology, information and connectivity solutions to the P&C insurance industry.” In the last seven years, the company has seen a 125 percent growth to its gross revenue and the successful addition of a fully scaled and highly-competitive casualty division in addition to its APD offering – creating a one-stop-shop for insurance carriers. Mitchell has added over 2,000 full-time employees and outsourced partners, expanded to Europe through strategic partnerships and solidified a top-three market leadership position across auto physical, auto casualty and workers’ compensation divisions.
