New Elektron MultiTool Dent Repair Station Helps Technicians Repair Aluminum

Mobile workstation equipped with tools technicians need to properly repair dents in aluminum sheet metal body panels and hoods.

Elektron states that its new MultiTool Aluminum Dent Repair Station is a complete mobile workstation equipped with the tools technicians need to properly repair dents in aluminum sheet metal body panels and hoods.

Because ferrous metal can contaminate aluminum and cause corrosion (leading to adhesion issues and paint failure), best practices for aluminum repair call for dedicated aluminum repair areas and equipment. Elektron’s MultiTool Aluminum Dent Repair Station includes a work area as well as space for storing the tools used on aluminum components.

“The new MultiTool Aluminum Dent Repair Station is self-contained and mobile, making it easy to use in shops with dedicated aluminum repair bays as well as those that only work on aluminum occasionally and need something that can be pulled out as necessary,” said Mike Cranfill, vice president of collision for Vehicle Service Group (VSG), Elektron’s parent company. “Many vehicle hoods are already made out of aluminum, and the use of aluminum in vehicles in North America will continue to increase. The Elektron MultiTool Aluminum Dent Repair Station represents an affordable investment in a shop’s future by providing equipment necessary to work on the next generation of cars and trucks.”

The fully equipped MultiTool workstation comes with the new MultiSpot M22 AL stud welder. This 115V aluminum capacitor discharge welder includes a stud gun and two-clamp grounding cables. A starter kit of aluminum studs and zinc-plated steel eye-bolts is included.

To remove dents of various sizes, the Repair Station contains two pulling systems. The 90 cm anodized aluminum pulling bar kit is designed with specially shaped feet equipped with suction cups to fit the car body, including angular surfaces. The kit includes three tie-rods and multi-hook gripping heads for use in combined or independent dent-pulling operations. For smaller jobs, the anodized aluminum pulling system has a single tie-rod with special heads that can pull either a single hook or a group of hooks. The system’s two feet can be replaced with a circular base accessory when repairing small-diameter dents.

The MultiTool’s hammer kit is comprised of four hammers with anodized aluminum heads. Two round-head hammers weigh 3.2 and 6.4 oz. respectively. A square head hammer weighing 6.7 oz. and a 20.8 oz. mallet round out the set.

The Elektron MultiTool Aluminum Dent Repair Station is also outfitted with the following tools:

• Heat gun for heating the dented area of the panel.
• Touchless, infrared laser thermometer to closely monitor the heated area and ensure it stays within the recommended temperature range.
• Heat shield gel to create a barrier against the heat to protect undamaged portions of the aluminum panel.
• Angled air die grinder to remove weld studs and for other sanding and grinding operations on aluminum panels.

The MultiTool Dent Repair Station is part of Elektron’s new family of collision repair equipment designed specifically to fix aluminum vehicle components. The line also includes the MultiMig 511 and MultiMig 522 MIG/MAG inverter welders and the MultiSpot M25 AL stud welder.
