News 13 WLOS out of Asheville, N.C., recently ran a story urging consumers to be informed and to act as their own advocates when it comes to getting their cars fixed.

The report told consumers that their best defense is knowing what to look for. “Ask to see the parts the repairer replaced and take a close look at the seams between panels. They should be even.”

News 13 found that Pack Brothers Collision Center had nine attorneys reach out to them to prove that shops had engaged in unfair or deceptive trade practices as a result of unsafe repairs.

North Carolina recently had its largest judgment against a body shop and insurance provider that should have totaled a vehicle with structural damage. After seeing the evidence, the jury ruled that the car should have been replaced. Click here to view the full report.
