Sherwin-Williams announced on Aug. 17 in Cleveland, Ohio, that it would be
defending its NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race victory at the Kansas Speedway.
Sherwin-Williams Chairman and CEO Chris Connor made the
announcement that the company would again partner with 3M and the No. 16 Ford
Fusion driven by Greg Biffle of Roush Fenway Racing.
Biffle joined Connor and more than 500 Sherwin-Williams
"team members" to take another "victory lap" with the Kansas
race trophy, reflect on the win and unveil the #16 car’s new paint scheme for
this year’s event. The race will now be called the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series
Hollywood Casino 400 (fourth race in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup), and
be held in Kansas City on Oct. 9, 2011.
The Sherwin-Williams logo was prominently displayed at
the 2010 Kansas Speedway race as Biffle and his Roush Fenway Racing team led 59
of the final 61 laps, winning by 7.638 seconds. It was the largest margin of
victory in NASCAR last year.
"This was a special opportunity to work with one of
our valued suppliers, 3M, and together experience the thrill of victory
lane," said Connor. "It was incredible to see Greg Biffle cross the
finish line first on national television in the Sherwin-Williams/3M Roush
Fenway Racing Ford Fusion."
Added Bobby Moody, director of motorsports for
Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes, "For years, some of the biggest
names in racing have trusted their race car finishes to Sherwin-Williams. In
fact, more than a dozen NASCAR teams currently use Sherwin-Williams Automotive
Finishes, more than any other paint supplier. We want all of our teams to know
that for us, it always is, and will be, about the finish. We aim to help teams
cross the finish line and ensure that their cars and their sponsors always look
good circling the track."
The victory also represents the first time a car painted
in AWX Waterborne Basecoat from Sherwin-Williams won in NASCAR.
"We had an incredible race in Kansas City, and I was
excited to take the Sherwin-Williams/3M car to victory lane – and we’re really
looking forward to doing it again," said Greg Biffle, who has sported
Sherwin-Williams coatings on his cars for many years. In fact, he and the
30-plus other drivers who now feature Sherwin-Williams finishes have more than
200 NASCAR Sprint Cup victories between them and make up a virtual "who’s
who" of motorsports’ finest finishers. The motorsports teams using with
