Sherwin-Williams Announces Partnership with Richard Childress Racing at 2014 SEMA Show

Childress and Sherwin-Williams displayed the first of only 25 Off-Road Signature Series custom pickup trucks, the sale of which will benefit Ducks Unlimited to conserve waterfowl habitats.

Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes announced another partnership with Richard Childress Racing at the 2014 SEMA Show. The program was introduced by racing legend Richard Childress, where he and Sherwin-Williams displayed the first of only 25 Off-Road Signature Series custom pickup trucks.

The vehicle was built in tandem with American Luxury Coach and features a special-edition Ducks Unlimited Richard Childress Racing-inspired package. It also sports a special matte black finish and clearcoat created by Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes.

“We have been using Sherwin-Williams products for a long time at RCR,” said Richard Childress, chairman and CEO of Richard Childress Racing. “They provide quality paints, which have made our race cars look impressive to us and our partners. Everyone raves how great they look on the track and television.”

The limited series vehicles – just 25 of the customized, off-road trucks will be produced – feature an original GM OE-based black matte finish with Sherwin-Williams ULTRA 7000 black matte topcoat on all trim and painted accessory pieces. Demonstrating the complexity of this project, the new matte black finish requires the truck to be almost completely disassembled, painted and put back together.

All the paint is then sealed by Sherwin-Williams 727 matte clearcoat, according to Bobby Moody, Sherwin-Williams director of racing.

“Much of the same basecoat color and clearcoat products you’ll find on the special Off-Road Signature Series trucks are the same finishes we apply to the more than a dozen motorsports teams competing in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series,” said Moody. “In addition to providing paint for the new Off-Road Signature Series vehicles, Sherwin-Williams is also the ‘The Official Automotive Paint of NASCAR.’”

American Luxury Coach (based in Florence, S.C.) is customizing the 25 trucks, from the Chevrolet Z92 line with a 6.2-liter engine. They all will feature a GM high-performance supercharger and a six-inch lift including the Ducks Unlimited package, among other customizations. In addition, for every vehicle sold, a portion of the proceeds will go to assist the wildlife conservation organization.

Ducks Unlimited Inc. is the world’s largest non-profit organization dedicated to conserving North America’s continually disappearing waterfowl habitats. Richard Childress Racing and several of its sponsors have been longtime supporters of the organization.

“Hunting and conservation are very important to me and my family,” added Richard Childress. “Ducks Unlimited does great work, and this one-of-a-kind design is something we are very proud to be part of on this truck.”

Added “Jumpin” Joe Jebaily, American Luxury Coach president and CEO, “For the select few who can afford it and understand what they’re purchasing, this is the ultimate purchase in trucking; to say this is a limited edition at just 25 units is an understatement. That’s because it combines the best collaborative work of several great brands, and it all benefits a great charity.”
