Sherwin-Williams is honored to be a part of this season’s NASCAR Race to Green week, which began April 20. As the “Official Transportation Finishes of NASCAR,” Sherwin-Williams salutes the entire NASCAR family as the brand has long worked with dozens of motorsports teams and sponsors to assist with their environmental and sustainable practices.
Many NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and NASCAR XFINITY Series teams are doing their part to begin and maintain sustainable practices on and off the track. For instance, Roush Fenway Racing recycles more than 96 percent of each Roush vehicle after every race. The Roush Fenway team also has been using Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes’ AWX Performance Plus waterborne refinish system. It features an easy-to-apply, fast drying basecoat for excellent color match and uses a proprietary waterborne resin system that achieves VOC emissions compliance in all 3.5 VOC regulated areas.
In another example of sustainable awareness, Richard Childress Racing (RCR) also utilizes Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes technologies – in this case, its HP Process with Air-Bake Technology – a painting process which removes the need for baking to achieve a faster cure time at ambient temperatures. Featuring its HPC 15 and 21 high speed clears, this reduces the RCR paint shop carbon footprint because less natural gas is needed to heat the team’s spraybooths.
“More than a dozen NASCAR teams currently use Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes, and we aim to help teams cross the finish line and ensure that their cars and their sponsors always look good circling the track,” said Bobby Moody, director of motorsports for Sherwin-Williams. “We also want to assure them of our commitment to utilize the most environmentally responsible coatings products in the world.”
