Shop Owner Profile: What Kind of Men and Women Head the Nation’s Collision Repair Shops?

Are they ready for retirement or taking over the family business? We polled some of our subscribers - maybe even you! - to find out more about the people leading this industry.

The collision industry is a melting pot of businesses – from independent body repair shops to franchised body and paint shops to new- and used-car dealership body shops.

In this year’s Industry Profile, we polled the shop owners and managers of those facilities to get background on the people who make this industry what it is. When the surveys were all tallied, we found that 82.3 percent of our respondents are shop owners, 15.2 percent are shop managers, less than 1 percent are shop foremen and less than 2 percent are other shop staff.
