Halbrook’s Paint & Body Shop in Shelbyville, Ill., is hoping to save on its electric bill and possibly earn some cash back from the electric company by using a wind turbine to generate power.
The 40-kilowatt turbine rests on a 100-foot tower behind the shop. Shop owner Brian Holbrook told the Shelbyville Daily Union that incentives offered by the state and federal government enticed him to invest in the project.
If the turbine generates more energy than the shop needs to use, the excess power will be released into the electric grid, and the local electric co-op will credit the shop on its bill for the power generated.
