New Jersey police reported a 16-year-old girl, with a newly printed learner’s permit, drove into an apartment building and struck three gas meters, filling the building with explosive levels of gas. The girl reportedly hit the accelerator accidentally instead of the brake.
At the time of the accident, the teenager was taking driving lessons with her dad. Police responded to the apartment complex around 10:23 p.m.
Police Lt. Gregory Conklin told myCentralJersey.com that the 40 residents living in the 12 apartments were safely evacuated and relocated with relatives, since the apartments were deemed uninhabitable. No injuries were reported.
