Toyota Distributor Converts to Waterborne with PPG

Gulf States Toyota (GST), an independent distributor of Toyota vehicles, has chosen PPG’s Envirobase High Performance waterborne basecoat for its vehicle processing center. GST distributes Toyota and Scion cars, trucks and SUVs to 154 dealerships in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas.

The processing center, located in Houston, Texas, is the company’s key facility for a range of vehicle services including body and paint repair, equipment upgrades, special paint applications and accessory installation.

“We’re committed to doing the right thing for the environment,” said Bryan Reis, GST collision center operations manager. “We wanted to ensure we were doing all we could to be ecologically conscientious. That meant, among other things, converting to waterborne coatings. It also meant meeting Toyota’s high standards for quality.”

GST decided to switch to PPG after working with another supplier for more than 20 years. GST says PPG’s environmentally friendly product line and training and support offerings were reasons for its switch. GST will be serviced by PPG Platinum Distributor TASCO Auto Color.

“Obviously, we’re very happy GST chose to work with PPG,” said Stephen Lea, PPG territory manager. “Their concern for the environment and desire to be a good corporate citizen makes them a natural partner for us.”
