8News out of Virginia recently ran an investigative report on insurance companies “forcing” auto body shops to use salvaged or aftermarket parts and cutting corners on repairs.
The Washington Metropolitan Auto Body Association tipped off the TV station and steered them to a consumer whose vehicle was hacked by a local body shop. He then took it to Harrison Body Works for a re-repair and fought with his insurance company to pay for it. Harrison Body Works owner Ben Gibson found major flaws, including mismatched paint and gaps in panels.
“Our industry is being pushed by the insurance industry to use any way we can to cut costs,” Gibson told 8News.
