ASA Opposes South Dakota CAPA
The Automotive Service Association (ASA) is opposing South Dakota Senate Bill 103, a measure recently introduced by state Sen. Nancy Turbak to establish certification provisions regarding the use of replacement automotive crash parts. The bill was introduced Jan. 16, passed in the state Senate Jan. 25 and moved to the South Dakota House of Representatives.

Rhode Island Bills Address Insurers’ Role in Repairs
The Rhode Island House Corporations Committee is considering two bills dealing with insurers’ role in repairs that were introduced in the legislature in January. JMAC Radiator and Air Acquired
1-800-Radiator announced the purchase of air conditioning distributor JMAC Radiator and Air, a $13 million company with 18 locations over two-thirds of the country. 1-800-Radiator will approach the air conditioning market the same way it has the radiator market. Assets include nearly 90 percent of JMAC’s staff, including Ryan McKenna, general manager of Nationwide Sales.
Oklahoma Re-Introduces Right to Repair Legislation
The Motor Vehicle Owners’ Right to Repair Act (H.B. 2820) was re-introduced in the Oklahoma State Legislature by Rep. Daniel Sullivan (R) on Jan. 18. Although the bill introduced last year by Rep. California Bill Would Prohibit Aftermarket Parts on Factory-Warranty Vehicles
California State Sen. Carole Migden, D-San Francisco, introduced legislation (S.B. 1059) on Jan. 7 that would prohibit an insurance company from requiring that an aftermarket part be used in the repair of a vehicle that is under factory warranty. New Jersey Again Considers Right to Repair
The New Jersey General Assembly recently reintroduced the so-called “Right to Repair” bill after the 2007 session ended without its consideration. Addressing Anti-trust Georgina: Nice article on Anti-trust [Editor’s Notes, May, pg. 6]. Just read it while I ate my lunch. If my so-called competitors wouldn’t be so afraid of their own shadow (Puxatawney Phil would be ashamed!), maybe the industry could move forward. Charge what you need to charge; the rest will figure itself out.
