The Liability is Growing

“Vehicle Directs Man into Oncoming Traffic After ADAS Camera Was Not Calibrated.” The headline we’ve all been dreading. Or should have been dreading.

“Vehicle Directs Man into Oncoming Traffic After ADAS Camera Was Not Calibrated.” The headline we’ve all been dreading. Or should have been dreading.

The person had the windshield of their 2016 Acura MDX replaced. The vehicle was equipped with advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), and the camera on the windshield was not recalibrated after the windshield was replaced.

According to Mitch Becker’s article, “ADAS and Auto Glass: What Shops Need to Know Before Releasing a Vehicle,” here are questions you need answers to:

  • Is the vehicle equipped with ADAS?
  • Does the vehicle require a recalibration after a windshield R&I or replacement?
  • What are the recalibration requirements?
  • Do you have the proper equipment?
  • Who is responsible?

You may not like it, but body shops today have the responsibility of making sure that the technology in today’s highly sophisticated vehicles works properly when the vehicle is returned to the customer. The liability for not doing so is growing as these technologies advance. Are you willing to take the risk?
