Fix Auto USA announced that it has promoted Landon Thompson to the role of vice president of field operations and appointed Greg Carter to the role of director of franchise development.

Thompson, who was previously senior director of field operations, will be responsible for Fix Auto USA’’s network performance and ensuring DRP compliance with its insurance partners. Under Thompson’’s leadership, Fix Auto USA states that its network performance has consistently ranked at or near the top of industry performance measurements.

Carter has spent his entire career in the collision repair industry, starting by repairing vehicles in high school and ultimately opening his first shop, Carter Collision Service in San Diego, Calif., in 1991. In 2011, Carter become a founding Fix Auto USA franchise partner with his three locations and played a critical role in the brand’’s early development and growth. He now joins the organization in a similar role, expanding Fix Auto USA’’s footprint by extending invitations to only those owner-operators who fit Fix Auto USA’s criteria.

“”Investing in our business and making sure we have the right resources positioned correctly will drive success in 2018 and beyond,”” said Fix Auto President and CEO Paul Gange. “”Both Landon and Greg are poised to help us accomplish exactly that, and we look forward to working closely with prospective franchise partners and insurance partner customers to expand our footprint meaningfully and maintain our disciplined focus as a market leader.”

Exit Strategies: Personal Vision & Financial Planning

The most critical first step in an exit or transition plan is to develop a financial plan and personal vision of what your life will look like post-business.

Jerry was a 63-year-old auto body shop owner who contacted me regarding putting together an exit strategy. Like most shop owners, he had become tired of the day-to-day grind of dealing with the back-and-forth fights with the insurance carriers, yet he still loved the idea of being a part of a business he built from the ground up. Ideally, he would have liked his production manager, Evan, to become his heir apparent, yet he had no idea if Evan was interested in owning the shop or if he was even capable of doing so. His shop was a prime candidate for a consolidator, and he had received an offer from one, yet he cared about his employees and wanted to make sure they were taken care of. Also, he was unsure what he would do with himself if he did not have a place to go. He did not know where to turn.
