HOW TWO FAST THROUGHPUT SURFACERS CAN MEET ANY REFINISH REPAIR NEED

Primer surfacers play an essential role in surface prep and the ability to quickly achieve quality refinish repairs. In that light, PPG recently incorporated advanced coating technology to enhance its line of DELTRON® V-PRIME® surfacers.

DPS7500 V-Prime High Production Primer Surfacer is designed for fast throughput when performing full to multi-panel repairs. It features a high dry film build capability of 2.0-2.5 mils per coat and air dries in 60-75 minutes before sanding. Pot life is 70-85 minutes at 70°F.

For smaller spot repairs, the Deltron system offers DPS3105 V-Prime Quick Prime Urethane Surfacer. This primer also provides a dry film build capability of 2.0-2.5 mils per coat and needs only 30-45 minutes to air dry before sanding.

“With this choice of two ‘high velocity,’ high build surfacers, collision shops can meet any spot and panel repair need,” said Pete Ragone, PPG product manager, USCA. “Plus, preppers will appreciate how easy these surfacers are to apply and sand.”

“Both primers can also be applied with a roller to further save time—no need to use a spray gun.” In addition to fast dry-to-sand times, V-Prime surfacers offer excellent resistance to shrinkage and dry glossy to act as a built-in guide coat.

V-Prime surfacers share common reducers and hardeners and can be applied over a wide range of properly prepared substrates including fiber glass, bare steel, galvanized steel and aluminum as well as over other PPG primers and surfacers.

In addition to the Deltron refinish system, V-Prime surfacers are compatible with numerous PPG products, solvent and waterborne. They’re available across North America through PPG’s distributor network. More information on Deltron V-Prime surfacers is available here.

In today's collision repair industry, it's crucial to acknowledge the fact that vehicles have undergone significant changes. These changes have been so extensive that they can no longer be compared to our parents’ or grandparents’ vehicles. We were used to straightening metal, sanding, and spraying paint, but now we have to be computer technicians, metallurgy experts, and researchers because vehicles are now comprised of many different substrates and advanced technologies. As a result, staying up-to-date with the latest technology and techniques is essential to ensure we can provide our customers with the best possible service. This is why all industry professionals must embrace a culture of learning, regardless of how many years of experience they possess, which can be a difficult task because we know how much time it can take away from responsibilities in the shop. However, continued education is a critical element for keeping up with the newer technologies introduced into the collision repair industry, and it can optimize shop efficiencies and increase revenue.
